Donations for the Rita House

We received this letter about an opportunity to help in the Austin community.  If you are interested and able, please follow the links. Thank you.

Dear Friends and Family,

The Rita House at the Annunciation Maternity Home was the site of a kitchen fire Sunday night. The fire was not major, but did cause some damage to the kitchen. Additionally, the smoke was enough to damage some baby and house supplies and temporarily displace the 14 clients and their children living in the home. They are now seeking monetary and material donations to recover lost items as they are identified during the cleaning process. Monetary donations can be given through a paypal link on their website or by check to their offices. You may go to their website and read more about them.

I am asking for donations.   I want to thank everyone who has already donated to the cause. If you would still like to donate there are plenty of spots still open. Please feel free to sign up. I have also had lots of people who felt uncomfortable putting their names on the list so you can sign up as anonymous.

You can go here and sign up.

I don’t usually do stuff like this but I believe in the the cause. The Rita House helps women with children who would have had an abortion (but chose not to) and I think this is the time to show these women that we do care.

My son’s school, West Oak Woods, is Seeking Donations for The Rita House – you may drop them off by October 20, 2012 to West Oak Woods off of Slaughter Lane.

I also want to share a story with you that I shared on Facebook about my son Christopher. This occurred on October 9 of this year.

Today we were driving down the highway and we came to a light and at the light there was a homeless person standing on the side of the road. Her sign said ” WILL WORK FOR FOOD”
C asked “Mom what does that person want?”
I replied “she wants food”
C said” Mom give her some food”
I said “I don’t have any food”
C said “Mom when people don’t have food we have to help them. It is nice to help people. If we have money then we are rich and we can help other people.” Then he went on to say, “Mom if we don’t have money for food then we need to have a food drive, ask all of our friends to give food, so we can give it to people who do not have any money or food. Okay mom?”
Me : No reply I was too busy crying trying to pull myself together.
C said ” MOM , MOM, Mooooooommmmmm WE NEED TO HAVE A FOOD DRIVE SO WE CAN HELP THAT LADY”

Super Christopher to the rescue – he sure is my hero 🙂

I did not help that lady on that particular day but I can help out other people. I have been given another chance to reach out and help.  I am reaching out to you tonight to ask you to help me help these ladies that need us.

We’re so grateful to our community members who are seeing needs and helping fill them! If you have a cause or event coming up, and we can help spread the word, please contact us.

About Joy

We are a couple of gals who have seen the joy that can be added to someone’s life by a single act of kindness. We are mothers, wives, sisters, friends, and Mormons who want to make a difference. We are what we believe in. We believe first and foremost that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and the Son of God. We believe in a restoration of all the teachings of Jesus Christ. We are motivated by love, charity, and faith. Our faith is our inspiration to do and see the good all around us. Even though we all have diverse backgrounds and experiences, we feel by uniting with others committed to serving we can make a difference.
