The Friends of Austin State Supported Living Center is holding the Austin Spooktacular – a 2 mile fun-run, a 1 mile family scavenger hunt/walk and a kid-friendly activity festival to benefit the Austin State Supported Living Center. The Center serves children and adults with mental disabilities including austism, Down’s Syndrome, brain injuries, & schizophrenia.
We are helping find volunteers to help run the activities that morning. If you are available to volunteer by yourself or with your family, please email Joy or Kae so we can connect you with the volunteer coordinator.
If you are not able to volunteer, please consider attending the fall festival or running in the fun run! The Spooktacular is being held to raise funds for a wheelchair-accessible working greenhouse, where residents can learn about growing and taking care of plants. Funds will also be used to purchase additional recreational equipment such as glider swings, which are designed to accommodate wheelchairs. There are over 115 residents who rely exclusively on wheelchairs for mobility. It would be so nice for them to be able to enjoy swinging outside and enjoy the fresh air.
When: Saturday, October 20, 2012, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Where: Austin Supported Living Center, 2203 West 35th Street, Austin, TX
